Key Responsibilities
•Provide best practice support services for the systems under Enterprise Support Services (ESS) management responsibility.
•Maintain, tune and patch systems for optimum performance and security.
•Ensure changes are planned and implemented in a sound low risk manner, without creating system outages.
•Provide implementation support for Enterprise Support Services (ESS) to approved projects, when appointed to a project.
•To prepare and maintain key team support documents.
•Provide on-call support and participate in 24 x 7 roster rotation groups.
•Assist Service Management and Application teams in solving intermittent recurring problems.
•Provide solutions architecture advise (where qualified / experienced to do so).
•Provide Technical Project Management / Technical Lead to projects where experienced and / requested to do so.
•Provide support for costing solutions (hardware, software, and implementation labour), where experienced and / or being coached in doing so.
•To ensure that technical solutions implemented satisfy both the immediate and long-term needs of the business, and ensure adherence with the teams technical and security standards.
•To maintain an expert knowledge within the team of technology and industry trends in relation to your technology focus areas.
•Provide technical input during analysis phase of new projects to ensure that they are supportable/ maintainable.
•Escalate problems and concerns to your Team Leader and / or senior management.
Skills Set
•5 years knowledge of UNIX system administration (IBM AIX, Solaris, Linux)
•2 years experience of systems deployment, backup and recovery using products such as NIM and JumpStart.
•In depth knowledge of LPAR, DLPAR, micro-partitioning, VIO server, and using an HMC to remotely manage systems.
•2 years knowledge of clustering (such as HA/CMP and VCS).
•In depth understanding of NIS, DNS and NFS.
•In depth understanding of all aspects of networking.
•Detail management of critical support environments
•Detail management of time critical projects
•Sound background on enterprise backup products including Legato Networker or Tivoli Storage Manager.
•Clear understanding of Enterprise security policies
•Sound background of midrange management tools
•Sound background of SAN management knowledge
